অনেক দিন পর ফেলুদার আরেকটি গল্প, আর এবারে পটভূমি দার্জিলিং। ফেলুদাকে আমরা রূপালী-পর্দার জগতে প্রথম দেখি বোম্বাইয়ের বোম্বেটেতে, যখন বলিউডের চিত্রনির্দেশক পুলক ঘোষাল লালমোহন বাবুর গল্প থেকে একটি চলচ্চিত্র বানানোয় হাত দেন। সেই গল্পে ফিল্মও বানানো হয়, আর ফেলুদাও তারই মাঝে বোম্বাইয়ের এক বড় চোরাচালানকারীকে জব্দ করে। যাই হোক, তার বছরখানেক পরে পুলকবাবু আবারও লালমোহনবাবুর আরেকটি গল্প থেকে নতুন একটি সিনেমা বানানো শুরু করেন, আর দৃশ্যধারণের জায়গা হিসেবে বেছে নেওয়া হয় দার্জিলিং শহরটিকে। ফেলুদা ও তোপসের ইচ্ছে ছিল যে শুটিং দেখার সাথে সাথে তাদের প্রথম গোয়েন্দাগিরির জায়গাটিতে আরেকবার ঘুরে আসার, কিন্তু সেখানে গিয়ে যে তাদের আরেকবার তদন্তে নামতে হবে, তা কে জানত?

It has been a while since I last posted a Feluda story – so this time, an upload that takes the sleuth back to the very place where he first started as a detective. The story starts with Lalmohan Babu getting another offer from Bollywood director Pulak Ghoshal for one of his stories to be made into a movie. The last time that happened, Feluda and co. ended up in Mumbai to watch the shooting, and Feluda busted a smuggling racket and caught a godfather of the Mumbai underworld. This time, in a much more tranquil Darjeeling, he and Topshe hope to relax and relive old memories. But once they are there, things take a turn for the worse, and the detective has to reprise a familiar role in a familiar place.

আজকের গল্পটির ভূমিকা হিসেবে খানিকটা ইতিহাস – জাহাঙ্গীর যখন মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের সিংহাসনে, তখন নিজ রাজত্বের স্মারক হিসেবে তিনি বেশ কিছু মুদ্রার প্রচলন ঘটান। কালক্রমে সেগুলোর বেশিরভাগই হারিয়ে গেলেও অল্প কিছু মুদ্রা আজ পর্যন্ত টিকে গিয়ে অত্যন্ত মূল্যবান হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। জাহাঙ্গীরের স্বর্ণমুদ্রা  লেখা তেমনই কিছু মুদ্রাকে ঘিরে – কলকাতার একটি বনেদি পরিবারের সংগ্রহে ছিল রাশিমালার উপর ভিত্তি করে তৈরী জাহাঙ্গীর আমলের বারটি স্বর্ণমুদ্রা – যা আর্থিক ও ঐতিহাসিক, দুই দিক দিয়েই অমূল্য। কিন্তু সেই বাড়িতে একটি পারিবারিক অনুষ্ঠান চলাকালে রহস্যজনকভাবে সেই মুদ্রাগুলির একটি চুরি হয়ে যায়। ঘটনা ঠিক এক বছর পরে বাড়ির কর্তা ফেলুদার শরণাপন্ন হন। তাঁর ইচ্ছে, আরেকবার সেই অনুষ্ঠানটি আয়োজন করে তিনি একই অতিথিদের আবার আমন্ত্রণ করবেন। পার্থক্য শুধু এই, যে এবার তাতে ফেলুদাও থাকবেন, পরিচয় গোপন করে। উদ্দেশ্য – চোর কে শনাক্ত করে তাঁর কাছ থেকে সেই মুদ্রা ফেরত আনা।

Another Feluda story, with an accompanying tidbit of history: when Jahangir was the ruler of the Mughal Empire, he issued many insignias to mark his reign. Among those were coins of different kinds but great value. Most of those were lost over time, but some survived to become historical objects in this age. In Jahangir er Swarnamudra (The Missing Zodiac), we come across one such artifact – a collection of gold coins which represent the signs of the zodiac. One coin, however, is missing, and it is up to Feluda to get it from an unknown thief who had stolen it a long time ago.

সোনার কেল্লা, গুপী গাইন বাঘা বাইন, জয় বাবা ফেলুনাথ, হীরক রাজার দেশে, আর পথের পাঁচালী – এই পাঁচটি নামগুলির মধ্যে মিল কোথায়? যারা সত্যজিৎ রায়ের চলচ্চিত্রের ভক্ত, তারা নিমেষেই এই নামগুলো চিনে ফেলবেন। বাংলা সাহিত্যপ্রেমীদের কাছে সত্যজিৎ ফেলুদা আর প্রফেসর শঙ্কুর স্রষ্টা হলেও বৃহত্তর পৃথিবীর কাছে তাঁর পরিচয় সর্বকালের অন্যতম শ্রেষ্ঠ একজন চলচ্চিত্র প্রযোজক হিসেবে, আর উপরের নামগুলো তাঁরই দিকনির্দেশিত চলচ্চিত্রগুলোর মধ্যে কটি। সোনার কেল্লা  আর জয় বাবা ফেলুনাথ  এর গল্পগুলো যে তারই লেখা, তা ফেলু মিত্তিরের ভক্তরা ভালই জানেন – সেগুলো পড়া যাবে এই সাইটেরই এইখানে আর এইখানে। আর যদিও গুপী-বাঘার গল্পগুলো উপেন্দ্রকিশোর রায় আর পথের পাচাঁলী  উপন্যাসটি বিভূতিভূষণ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের সৃষ্টি, সেগুলোর খ্যাতির ব্যাপক প্রসার কিন্তু ঘটে সত্যজিৎ রায়ের চলচ্চিত্রগুলোর মাধ্যমেই। যাই হোক, চলচ্চিত্রের পিছনের যেই মানুষটি, তাঁর চোখ দিয়ে কি গল্পগুলোকে আমাদের দেখতে ইচ্ছে করে না? সেজন্যেই আজকের এই লেখা। একেই বলে শুটিং লেখাটি সত্যজিৎ রায়ের পূর্নাঙ্গ আত্মজীবনী না হলেও সেটি যে তাঁর জীবনের একটি বড় অংশের স্মৃতিচারণা তা নিয়ে সন্দেহ নেই – আর এতে লেখক সত্যজিতকে ছাড়াও তার সময়কার বাংলা রূপালী-পর্দার জগৎ, ভারতবর্ষের জনপদ আর বাংলা-সাহিত্যের বিখ্যাত কজন চরিত্রকে আমরা সচরাচরের চাইতে ভিন্নরূপে দেখতে পাই। ফেলুদা, গুপী-বাঘা আর অপু-দুর্গাকে একসূত্রে গাঁথা লেখাটি পাঠকদের ভাল লাগবে জানি, তাই সবার জন্যে আজ সেটি তুলে দেওয়া – সত্যজিৎ রায়ের একেই বলে শুটিং।

Ekei Bale Shooting (Now This is What I Call Shooting) – Satyajit Ray

Sonar Kella, Gupi Gain Bagha Bain, Joy Baba Felunath, Heerak Rajar Deshe and Pather Panchali – do you know what these names have in common? If you are a fan of Satyajit Ray’s cinema, then you already do – they are some of the famous films directed by the man who was one of the world’s greatest movie-directors of all time. Fans of Feluda should immediately recognize two of the names – the original stories, Sonar Kella and Joy Baba Felunath, were written by Ray himself. And while Pather Panchali the novel was written by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay and Gupi-Bagha by Upendrakishore Ray, it was through Satyajit’s cinematic renditions that they achieved widespread fame. It is not hard to imagine that Ray himself would have a thing or two to write about his life as a movie-director, which is what we find in Ekei Bale Shooting (Now This is What I Call Shooting) – a light reminiscence that endears not only Ray himself, but also the world of show-business and ordinary people across India to us, and also reveals well-known literary characters in an entirely new light. অনেকদিন পর এই সাইটে আবার ফেলুদা – আর এবার এমনই একটি গল্পে, যা এতদিনের বিরতিকে ন্যায্যতা দেওয়ার মতই রহস্য-রোমাঞ্চে ঠাসা। ফেলুদার গল্পগুলোর বেশিরভাগই সত্যজিৎ রায় লিখেছিলেন কোন ব্যক্তিবিশেষ কিংবা পরিবারকে ঘিরে কোন রহস্যকে নিয়ে – যেমনটা আমরা পাই এবার কাণ্ড কেদারনাথে কিংবা ছিন্নমস্তার অভিশাপ এর মত গল্পগুলোতে। কৈলাসে কেলেঙ্কারী সেদিক দিয়ে একটু আলাদা – এই গল্পে ফেলুদাকে লড়তে হয় এমনই একটি চক্রের সাথে, যাদের নাগাল ভারতের প্রতিটি কোণে, আর যাদের কাছ থেকে নিজেকে ও তোপসেদের মুক্ত রাখতে প্রায় পুরো গল্পজুড়েই ফেলুদাকে থাকতে হয় আমাদের অগোচরে। পাঠকদের একটু সুড়সুড়ি দেওয়ার জন্যে গল্প থেকে দুটো অনুচ্ছেদ তুলে দেই –

“কেন মুশকিল কেন?… তবে একটা কথা বলি – একটা অ্যাডভাইস, অ্যাজ এ ফ্রেন্ড – এই সব র‍্যাকেটের পেছনে মাঝে মাঝে এক একটা দল থাকে – গ্যাং – এবং তারা বেশ পাওয়ারফুল হয়। গায়ের জোর বলছি না। পয়সার জোর। পোজিশনের জোর। শিক্ষিত অবস্থাপন্ন লোকেরা যখন নোংরা কাজে নামে, তখন সাধারণ ক্রিমিনালদের চেয়ে তাদের বাগে আনা অনেক বেশি শক্ত হয়, জানেন তো?”

আর এটা ফেলুদার –

“(এটা) আরও বেশি প্রেশাস। চুনি পান্না পৃথিবীতে হাজার হাজার আছে, ভবিষ্যতে সংখ্যায় আরও বাড়বে। কিন্তু কৈলাসের মন্দির বা সাঁচির স্তূপ বা এলিফ্যান্টার গুহা – এসব একটা বই দুটো নেই। হাজার-দু হাজার বছর আগে আমাদের আর্ট যে হাইটে উঠেছিল সে হাইটে ওঠার কথা আজকের আর্টিস্ট ভাবতেই পারে না। সুতরাং সে যুগের আর্ট দেশে যা আছে তাকে বাঁচিয়ে রাখতে হবে। যারা তাকে নষ্ট করতে চায় তারা ক্রিমিন্যাল। আমার মতে ভূবনেশ্বরের যক্ষীকে হত্যা করা হয়েছে। যে করেছে তার কঠিন শাস্তি হওয়া দরকার।”

অমূল্য প্রত্নসম্পদ, সঙ্ঘবদ্ধ পাচারকারী ও গোয়েন্দা প্রদোষ চন্দ্র মিত্র… তিন ‘প’তে মিলে পাঠকদের জন্যে ফেলুদার আরেকটি দুর্দান্ত গল্প – কৈলাসে কেলেঙ্কারী ।

Feluda’s Adventures – Kailash e Kelenkari (A Killer in Kailash)

A long break later, a Feluda upload again – and this time, a story that is certainly worth the long wait that has been for some of you. While most of Feluda’s stories were centred on mysterious families and/or individuals (Chinnamaster Abhishap and Ebar Kando Kedarnath e are cases in point) Kailash e Kelenkari (A Killer in Kailash) is a big departure from that trend – in this story, our favorite sleuth faces a syndicate that not only is pan-Indian in its reach, but also murdurous in its smuggling of ancient Indian artifacts abroad. Interestingly, unlike Feluda’s other adventures, this story is one with a somewhat nationalistic tone – a generous dose of James Bond added to the usual Holmesian narrative, if you ask me… but far from diluting the plot, that only adds to its thrill. ‘For your eyes only’, therefore, this upload. Feluda’s Stories – Bosepukur e Khunkharapi (Murder in Bosepukur) – Satyajit Ray

One of the more intriguing Feluda stories this time. The Acharyas of Bosepukur are a well-known family, headed by an octogenarian patriarch who has his three sons . The older two, who hold big positions, uphold the family name in the traditional sense. However, Indranarayan, the youngest, is a bit of a black-sheep, and much to his brothers’ chagrin, joins a theatre, where his fame as a writer eventually outstrips those of his snobbish siblings. But fame also creates enemies for Indranarayan, who fails to safeguard himself against them, until it is too late. A mystery that ties the tensions in an elite family with the world of Theatre, Bosepukur e Khunkharapi is a Feluda novel fit for your lazy afternoons. এই সাইটের পাঠকেরা যে ফেলুদার গল্প পড়তে এত ভালবাসে(ন), তা সাইটটির পরিসংখ্যান না ঘাটলে কি আর জানতাম? ফেলুদার যে কয়টি গল্প এর আগে পোস্ট করেছি, সেগুলোর প্রায় সবগুলোতেই ক্লিক পড়েছে অনেক, তাই সেকথা মাথায় রেখেই পাঠকদের মধ্যে যারা গোয়েন্দা-গল্পের পোকা, তাদের জন্য ফেলুদার আরেকটি গল্প তুলে দিলাম : )

ফেলুদার যত গল্প সত্যজিৎ রায় লিখেছেন, সেগুলোর মধ্যে বাক্স রহস্য  খুব সম্ভবত সবচেয়ে অভিনব। গল্পের শুরু হয় দীননাথ লাহিড়ী নামের এক বনেদি মক্কেল ফেলুদার কাছে আসা নিয়ে। ভদ্রলোক কিছুদিন আগে ট্রেনে করে দিল্লি থেকে ফিরছিলেন, আর যাত্রার সময় তার একটি বাক্স অচেনা এক যাত্রীর ঠিক একই রকম দেখতে আরেকটি বাক্সের সাথে অদল-বদল হয়ে যায়। দীননাথবাবুর বাক্সে মূল্যবান কোন জিনিস না থাকলেও অন্তত অন্য অচেনা ভদ্রলোকটি যাতে তার বাক্স ফেরত পান, সেজন্যেই তিনি ফেলুদার শরণাপন্ন হন। ব্যাপারটার অভিনবত্ব দেখে ফেলুদাও বাক্সটি ফেরত দেওয়ার দ্বায়িত্ব নিতে রাজি হয়। কিন্তু এই আপাতদৃষ্টিতে সহজ এই কাজটি করতে গিয়ে যে ফেলুদাকে শেষ পর্যন্ত তার সবচেয়ে তুখোড় প্রতিদ্বন্ধী ও একজন বেপরোয়া অপরাধীর সাথে লড়াই করতে হবে, তা কে জানত? যারা ফেলু মিত্তিরের ভক্ত, তাদের নিঃসন্দেহে এই গল্পটি ভাল লাগবে, আর যাদের এখনো ভক্ত হতে বাকি, তাদের জন্যে এটির চাইতে ভাল ঔষধ আর কি হয়? সবার জন্যে তাই বাক্স রহস্য গল্পটি তুলে দিলাম। : )

Feluda’s Stories – Baksho Rahasya (The Mystery of the Box) – Satyajit Ray

Of the stories I have posted here so far, those of Feluda seem to be the most popular among my readers. So in response to popular demand, here is another: Baksho Rahasya (The Mystery of the Box) is perhaps one of the most unusual of Feluda’s cases. The story starts with the arrival of a rich gentleman named Dinnath Lahiri at Feluda’s house. A few days earlier, Mr. Lahiri was returning by train from Delhi to Kolkata, when a box (case) he owned was mistakenly exchanged with an identical one belonging to an unknown passenger. Mr. Lahiri did not really care to get his own back, but he wanted to return the box he had to its original owner out of courtesy, so he asks for Feluda’s help. Feluda accepts the case. But the seemingly innocuous problem is to lead to more difficult and dangerous onces – an encounter with a reckless criminal, and a battle with one of the cleverest adversaries Feluda would ever come across. In my opinion, Baksho Rahasya is one of the best of Feluda’s adventures, and I hope the readers will like this as much as I did, if not more. Enjoy!

এবার ফেলুদার আরেকটি গোয়েন্দাকাহিনী। কলকাতায় তখন গ্রীষ্ম, আর ফেলুদারাও বসে, তেমনই এক সময় ডুয়ার্স হতে মহীতোষ সিংহরায় নামের এক জমিদারের কাছ থেকে লালমোহন বাবুর কাছে এক নিমন্ত্রণপত্র আসে। মহীতোষবাবুর সাথে লালমোহন বাবুর পত্রালাপ থাকলেও ফেলুদার সাথে ছিল না, কিন্তু তার চিঠির শেষটুকু ছিল এইরূপ –

“আপনার বন্ধু শ্রীপ্রদোষ মিত্র মহাশয়ের ধুরন্ধর গোয়েন্দা হিসাবে খ্যাতি আছে বলিয়া শুনিয়াছি। আপনি তাহাকে সঙ্গে করিয়া আনিতে পারিলে তিনি হয়তো আমার একটা উপকার করিতে পারেন। কি স্থির করেন পত্রপাঠ জানাইবেন।”

অতঃপর ফেলুরাদের ডুয়ার্সের উদ্দেশ্যে যাত্রা, আর রয়েল বেঙ্গল রহস্যের শুরু। মহীতোষবাবুর জমিদারীতে পৌঁছানোর পর ফেলুদারা জানতে পারেন যে সিংহরায় পরিবারের এক পূর্বপুরুষ এককালে বহু পারিবারিক ধনরত্ন পাগলামীর বশে এক গোপন জায়গায় লুকিয়ে  তা খুঁজে বের করার জন্যে একটি ধাঁধা রেখে গিয়েছিলেন। ফেলুদার কাছে অবশেষে তাদের নিমন্ত্রিত হওয়ার মূল কারণটি স্পষ্ট হয়, আর ধাঁধাটির সমাধান করতে তিনি সম্মতও হন। কিন্তু সেই রাতেই বনের মাঝে লোকজনের গোপন আনাগোনা তাঁর চোখে পরে, আর তার পরদিন বনের মধ্যে মহীতোষ বাবুর সহকারী তড়িৎবাবুর বাঘে-খাওয়া লাশ পাওয়া যায়। ফেলুদা দুটো রহস্যই উদঘাটনের সিদ্ধান্ত নেন, কিন্ত তার ফলে সিংহরায় পরিবারের অনেক অপ্রিয় গোপন কথা এক এক করে বেরিয়ে আসতে শুরু করে।

রয়েল বেঙ্গল রহস্যের শুরুতেই সত্যজিৎ রায় গল্পের ধাঁধাটি তুলে দিয়েছিলেন, আমিও পাঠকদের সুড়সুড়ি দেওয়ার জন্যে নাহয় তাই করি? তাছাড়া ছায়াছবি দেখতে যারা ভালবাসেন, তাদের জন্যে সত্যজিৎ রায়ের গল্পটি থেকে বানানো সিনেমাটির ইউটিউব লিঙ্কটিও নিচের ছবিটিতে সংযুক্ত করে দিলাম।

“মুড়ো হয় বুড়ো গাছ
হাত গোন ভাত পাঁচ

Feluda’s Stories – Royal Bengal Rahasya (The Royal Bengal Mystery) – Satyajit Ray

In this upload, another Feluda Adventure: During an unbearably hot summer in Kolkata, Lalmohan Babu receives an invitation to visit from an acquaintance, Mohitosh Singha Roy, a rich zamindar from Assam. In the letter, Feluda is invited as well, with a hint from Mr. Singha Roy that Feluda would be able to do a favor to him. Feluda and co. accept, and a few days later, arrive in Mr. Singha Roy’s estate in the forests of Dooars. It turns out that a long time ago, one of Mr. Singha Roy’s ancestors had hidden his family’s treasure, and ciphered the location in six lines of rhyme that had remained with the Singha Roy family since. Feluda accepts the challenge to decode it, but that very night, Mohitosh Babu’s secretary disappears and his partially eaten body is found in the forest the next day. Feluda is now left with two mysteries to solve, with the shadow of a man-eating tiger looming large over it all.

মৌসুমটা যখন পূজোর, তাই এবারের গল্পটাও নাহয় সময়টার মতই জমজমাট হোক। জয় বাবা ফেলুনাথ পুজোর সময়েরই গল্প, তবে এতে ফেলুদার গোয়েন্দাগিরী বাংলাতে নয়, ঘটে কাশীর সরু গলিগুলোর মধ্যে। দশাশ্বমেধ ঘাট আর বিশ্বনাথের শহর কাশীতে ফেলুদাদের যাওয়ার উদ্দেশ্য ছিল পুজোর ছুটি কাটানো, কিংবা লালমোহনবাবুর ভাষায় “কাশী, (ফেলুদার তদন্তের) কেস আর (কাশীতে ঘুরে প্লট জোগাড় করে তা নিয়ে লিখে লালমোহন বাবুর) ক্যাশ” জোটানো। শেষ পর্যন্ত যা হয়, তা তোপ্‌সের বর্ণনায় –

বেনারস গিয়ে লালমোহনবাবু গল্পের প্লট পেয়েছিলেন ঠিকই; তবে ফিরে আসার দুমাস পরে বড়দিনে তার যে রহস্য উপন্যাসটা বেরোল, সেটার সাথে টিনটিনের একটা গল্পের আশ্চর্য মিল।

ফেলুদার কিন্তু গিয়ে সত্যিই লাভ হয়েছিল। তা না হলে অবিশ্যি এই বইটাই লেখা হত না। ফেলুদার জীবনে সবচেয়ে ধুরন্ধর ও সাংঘাতিক প্রতিদ্বন্দীর সঙ্গে তাকে এই বেনারসেই লড়তে হয়েছিল। ও পরে বলেছিল – ‘এইরকম একজন লোকের জন্যই অ্যাদ্দিন অপেক্ষা করছিলাম রে তোপ্‌সে। এ সব লোকের সঙ্গে লড়ে জিততে পারলে সেটা বেশ একটা টনিকের কাজ দেয়।’

গোয়েন্দা সাহিত্যে নায়কের কৃতিত্বের সিংহভাগই যে খলনায়কের কারণেই, জয় বাবা ফেলুনাথ  এর মগনালাল মেঘরাজ তার অখন্ডনীয় প্রমাণ। গল্পটা কিভাবে শেষ হয়, তা তো জানাই। কিন্তু প্রথম আর শেষের মাঝখানে ঠাসা যেই টানটান উত্তেজনা, তাতো আর সেটি না পড়লে বোঝার নয়। তাই এই পূজোয় পাঠকদের জন্যে আজ ফেলুদার আর মগনলালের রোমহর্ষক সংঘর্ষের কাহিনী – জয় বাবা ফেলুনাথ । শারদীয় শুভেচ্ছা রইল।

For about half of us Bangalees, it is that wonderful time of the year again. And the season demands that everything else measures up to it, does it not? So this time, as the season’s greetings from yours truly, an upload that is perhaps the best of the Feluda series. Imagine yourself in a few days from now, celebrating this year’s Durga Puja, but not in Kolkata or some other place in Bangla. Instead, you are in Kashi, the old and colorful city of temples and narrow lanes, of ghats on the Ganga, and of gangsters and godfathers. Now, imagine you are a sleuth, and that a local Bangalee in distress asks for your help on a case. You accept, only to find yourself against the godfather of the city, Maganlal Meghraj, whose goons lurk in every corner of Benares. What would you do? আরেকবার ফেলুদা, তবে এটি পাহাড় কিংবা নগর নয়, বরং বাংলারই বীরভূমকে পটভূমি করে লেখা। গল্পটি যার পূর্বপুরুষের পান্নাকে (রুবি) নিয়ে, সেই রবার্টসনের সাথে ফেলুদাদের প্রথম পরিচয় হয় বীরভূমে যাওয়ার ট্রেনে, যা পরে সখ্যে গড়ায়। ভারতপ্রেমী রবার্টসন তার আলোকচিত্রী বন্ধু টম ম্যাক্সওয়েলকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে বীরভূম যাচ্ছিলেন পোড়ামাটির স্থাপত্যকলার স্থানীয় কিছু নিদর্শন দেখতে। তবে তার কাছে যে ভারত থেকে তারই ব্রিটিশ পূর্বপুরুষের লুঠ করা এক বহুমূল্য পান্না আছে, আর তা যে তিনি ভারতে ফেরত দিতে এসেছেন, সে খবর চাউর হয়ে যাওয়ায় অনেকেরই অনাকাঙ্খিত নজর পড়ে তার উপর। ব্যাপারটা ফেলুদার চোখে পড়লেও তার চিন্তার কারণ ছিল অন্য – ম্যাক্সওয়েল, যার ঔদ্ধত্য আর ভারতবিদ্বেষ শুধু পান্নাটিরই নয়, এমনকি রবার্টসনদের নিরাপত্তাকেও হুমকির মুখে ফেলে দেয়।

সত্যজিৎ রায়ের গল্পগুলি বাস্তব চরিত্রদের দ্বারা কতটুকু অনুপ্রাণিত, তা নিয়ে বোধহয় খুব বেশি গবেষণা হয়নি, তবে রবার্টসনের রুবিতে লেখকের একজন বন্ধুর উল্লেখ আমরা পাই – ডেভিড ম্যাককাচন, যিনি বাংলার পোড়ামাটির স্থাপত্যকলা নিয়ে অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ গবেষণা করেছিলেন। রবার্টসনের রুবি সত্যজিৎ প্রকাশ করার কিছুদিন আগে ম্যাককাচন মারা যান, তাই মনে হয় গল্পটিতে ম্যাককাচনের প্রশংসাটুকু হয়তো সত্যজিৎ পুরোনো বন্ধুর প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলী হিসেবে লিখেছিলেন।

Feluda’s Stories – Robertson er Ruby (Robertson’s Ruby) – Satyajit Ray

Feluda again, and this time, a bit closer to home. Robertson er Ruby starts with Feluda and company on a train journey to a vacation in Birbhum, when they meet and befriend Peter Robertson, an India-enthusiast who was traveling across the country with his friend, photographer Tom Maxwell. Although foremost a traveler, Peter was unique from other visitors, for he had come to India to return a priceless ruby that his great-great grandfather had looted during the British occupation of India. However, the ruby had also made him a target of collectors and potentially, criminals. Feluda saw travel ahead even as he befriended Robertson, but his unease would only be exacerbated by Maxwell, whose anti-Indian sentiment and superiority complex would put the entire party on the wrong side of the locals.

While notable for its pro-Indian sentiment and storyline alone, Robertson er Ruby is also perhaps unique in the sense that in the story, Satyajit Ray refers to a close friend – David McCutchion, who pioneered the academic study of the terracotta temples of Bangla. MuCutchion had probably died shortly before the story was published, and the Ray’s praise of McCutchion through the voice of Feluda can perhaps be regarded as a tribute to an old friend.

ফেলুদার যেসব গল্পগুলোর পটভূমি পাহাড়ের কোলে, সেগুলোতে কেন জানি অন্যরকম একটা রোমাঞ্চের একটা আবহ থাকে। এবার কাণ্ড কেদারনাথেও তার ব্যতিক্রম নয়। গল্পের শুরুটা হয় ফেলুদাদের কলকাতার বাড়িতে ভারতেরই কোন এক প্রাক্তন রাজ্যের রাজসহকারীর আসা দিয়ে। উপমহাদেশ যখন ব্রিটিশদের দখলে, সেই সময় সেই রাজ্যটির রাজা চন্দ্রদেও তার রোগ সারিয়ে দেওয়ার জন্যে হৃষিকেশের একজন আয়ুর্বেদিক ডাক্তারকে গোপনে উপহারস্বরূপ একটি মহামূল্য উপহার দেন। উমাশঙ্কর পুরীর কলকাতায় আসার উদ্দেশ্য ছিল এক বিশেষ কারণে এতদিন পর সেই ঘটনা জানাজানি হয়ে যাওয়ায় সেই ডাক্তারের উপর যাতে কোন বিপদ না নেমে আসে। অর্থাৎ ফেলুদা যেন সেই ডাক্তার কে অন্য কারো আগে খুঁজে বের করে বিপদমুক্ত করেন। ফেলুদা কেসটি হাতে নেয়, কিন্তু হৃষিকেশের পথে রওয়ানা দেওয়ার মাত্র ক’দিন আগে উমাশঙ্করের কাছ থেকে টেলিগ্রাম আসে – ‘রিকোয়েস্ট ড্রপ কেস। লেটার ফলোজ।’। ফেলুদা উত্তর পাঠায় – ‘ড্রপিং কেস, বাট গোইং অ্যাজ পিলগ্রিমস।’। গোয়ান্দাভিযান শেষপর্যন্ত উদ্দেশ্য বদলে তীর্থযাত্রা হয়ে গেলেও ফেলুদা স্বভাবতই তীর্থে গিয়ে চোখ-কান খোলা রাখে, আর সেখানে যা তার নজরে আসে, তা দেখে রহস্যময় সেই ডাক্তারকে খুঁজে পাওয়ার জন্য তাকে সেই চিরচেনা গোয়েন্দার ভূমিকায় অবতীর্ণ হতে হয়।

এই গল্পটির শেষ অংশটুকু একটু কাকতালীয়, কিন্তু সেই অপ্রত্যাশিতটুকু বাদে আর সবটুকুই আমাদের চিরচেনা উত্তেজনায় ঠাসা।

Feluda’s Stories – Ebar Kando Kedarnath e (This Time in Kedarnath) – Satyajit Ray

For some reason, whenever Feluda happens to be on mountainous terrains, there is an added sense of adventure. Ebar Kando Kedarnath e (This Time in Kedarnath) is no exception. The story starts with the arrival of a certain Umashankar Puri at Feluda’s doorstep. Mr. Puri, who manages what was once a small kingdom during the British occupation of India, narrates an incident in which the former king of the kingdom, Chandradeo, had gifted a priceless possession to an Ayurvedic doctor from Rishikesh for treating him. The secrecy of the gift had been maintained all these years, but now some people who knew about the incident were trying to seek out the old doctor. Sensing danger, Mr. Puri asks Feluda to find the doctor before anyone else, and protect him. Feluda agrees, but days before the three musketeers are about the set off to find the doctor, they unexpectedly receive a telegram from Mr. Puri saying ‘Request drop case. Letter follows.’. Feluda replies, ‘Dropping case but going as pilgrims’, little knowing that he would have to reprise his usual role before long.

ফেলুদার এই গল্পের শুরুটা খানিকটা আকস্মিক। কলকাতার পার্ক স্ট্রিটের এক খেলনার দোকানে এক আলাপীর জন্যে উপহার কিনতে গিয়ে এক ক্ষুদে ভক্তের সাথে ফেলুদার দেখা হয়ে যায়, আর ভক্তও দেরী না করে ফেলুদাকে তার পোষা টিয়ে হারিয়ে যাওয়ার তদন্তের আর্জি জানিয়ে বসে। অবশ্য রহস্য উদঘাটন নয়, বরং শ্রীমান অনিরুদ্ধ হালদারের মন ভাল করতেই ফেলুদারা একদিন গিয়ে হাজির হন হালদারবাড়িতে। ঘটনাচক্রে ফেলুদারা সেই বাড়িতে থাকা অবস্থাতেই একটি রোমহর্ষক ঘটনা ঘটে, আর তার সাথে সাথে হালদার পরিবারের মহামূল্য একটি সম্পত্তি – নেপোলিয়নের শেষজীবনে লেখা একটি চিঠি – রহস্যজনকভাবে উধাও হয়ে যায়। স্বাভাবিকভাবেই ঘটনাটির তদন্তের ভার ফেলুদার হাতে পড়ে, আর সেটা করতে গিয়ে তার কাছে ক্রমশই স্পষ্ট হয়ে ওঠে এই যে ছোট্ট অনিরুদ্ধের পাখি হারিয়ে যাওয়াকে বড়রা তেমন পাত্তা না দিলেও নেপোলিয়নের চিঠি লোপাটের চাইতে সেটাও কম অদ্ভুত কোন রহস্য নয়।

Feluda’s Stories – Napoleon er Chithi (Napoleon’s Letter) – Satyajit Ray

This investigation of Feluda starts somewhat unexpectedly. While in a toy shop to buy a gift for an acquaintance, Feluda comes across a young fan by the name of Aniruddha Haldar, who asks him if he can find out his lost parrot. More to give the little boy some time than find his bird, Feluda agrees to look into the matter, and true to his word, visits him after a few days. However, things go wrong when Feluda and his companions visit the Haldar House. Aniruddha’s grandfather, an antiquities collector, is found dead, and his most prized collection – one of the last ever letters written by Napoleon Bonaparte – goes missing. The case of the parrot is forgotten as Feluda is asked to investigate the developments, but it soon becomes clear to the detective that neither of the two cases are less intriguing than, or perhaps different from, the other.

কলকাতার বাইরে একদিন লালমোহনবাবুর গাড়িতে চড়ে বেড়াতে গিয়ে রাস্তায় ফেলুদাদের সাথে নবকুমার নিয়োগী বলে এক ভদ্রলোকের পরিচয় হয়। তাঁর গাড়ি মেরামত করতে সাহায্য করায় কৃতজ্ঞতাবশত তিনি ফেলুদাদের বৈকুন্ঠপুরে তাঁর বাড়িতে আমন্ত্রণ জানান। ফেলুদারা যানও, আর যথেষ্ট যত্নআত্তি পাওয়ার সাথে সাথে সেখানে তাঁদের বিখ্যাত ইটালিয়ান চিত্রশিল্পী টিনটোরেটোর (সঠিক উচ্চারণ তিনতোরেত্তো) আঁকা একটি যীশুর ছবিও দেখা হয়। এত আপ্যায়নের মাঝেও কিন্তু ফেলুদার মনে নিয়োগীবাড়িতে আরও কয়েকজন অতিথির থাকা, আর কিছুদিন আগে বাড়ির পোষা কুকুরটির মৃত্যু নিয়ে খটকা লাগে। আর সেই সন্দেহ সত্যি প্রমাণিত হয় যখন ফেলুদাদের চলে আসার কিছুদিন পরে সেই নিয়োগীবাড়িতে একটি খুনের সাথে সাথে যিশুর সেই মহামূল্য ছবিটি লোপাট হয়ে যায়।

Feluda’s Stories – Tintorettor Jishu (Tintoretto’s Jesus) – Satyajit Ray

Another of Feluda’s adventures – during a group trip out of the city, Feluda and co. help fix the car of a certain Nabakumar Niyogi, who gratefully invites them to spend the night his residence not far away. It turns out that Niyogi babu is rather wealthy, and Feluda, Topshe and Lalmohan Babu are treated like royals. However, when Feluda finds out that the family’s dog had been mysteriously killed a few days earlier, and that there are other guests staying in the house, he suspects that something is about to go wrong. And he is vindicated a few days layer, when Mr. Niyogi’s secretary is murdered and the most treasured possession of the Niyogi family, a Renaissance-era portrait of Jesus drawn by the Italian artist Tintoretto, goes missing.

অনেকদিন পর আবার ফেলুদার আরেকটি গল্প। গ্রীষ্মের কলকাতার চিরচেনা লোডশেডিং আর মশার উৎপাতে অতিষ্ঠ হয়ে ফেলুদা, তোপসে ও লালমোহনবাবু সিদ্ধান্ত নেন যে পুরীর সমুদ্রসৈকত ঘুরে আসবেন। উদ্দেশ্য – সমুদ্রের ধারে কদিন কাটিয়ে একটু ঠান্ডা হয়ে আসা। পুরীতে গিয়ে অবশ্য শুধু তাদের ভ্রমণই হয়, তা নয়। ঘটনাচক্রে ফেলুদার সাথে বিচিত্র কিছু মানুষের দেখা হয়ে যায়, যাদের একজন বন্যপ্রাণীর ছবি তোলেন, আর আরেকজন যিনি মানুষের কপালে হাত দিয়ে তাদের ভাগ্য পড়তে পারেন। প্রথমে কিছু না বোঝা গেলেও ফেলুদার কাছে ক্রমশই স্পষ্ট হয়ে ওঠে যে ঐ দুজন খুব ভিন্ন মানুষসহ আরও বেশ কয়েকজনকে ঘিরে ঘটে যাওয়া অদ্ভুত কিছু ঘটনার একমাত্র যোগসুত্র ডি.জি. সেন নামের এক রহস্যজনক ব্যক্তি, যার সাথে ফেলুদার এক জ্যাঠার আলাপ ছিল এককালে।

Feluda’s Adventures – Hatyapuri (Murder Town) – Satyajit Ray

A Feluda upload this time. With the summer heat in Kolkata becoming unbearable, Feluda, Topshe and Lalmohon Babu decides to go to the beaches of Puri to cool off. However, in the course of their travels in Puri, they come across two intriguing characters – a wildlife photographer who has returned from Nepal and an astrologer who can read one’s past and the future by touching his/her forehead. While not obvious at first, it soon becomes clear to Feluda that strange events involving these two men and a few others in Puri are strung by a common thread – a mysterious man named D. G. Sen, who a certain uncle of Feluda used to know.

ফেলুদার আরেকটি গল্প। ডাঃ রাজেন মুনসী, কলকাতার স্বনামধন্য মনোবিজ্ঞানী, চল্লিশ বছর ধরে লিখে আসা ডায়েরী অবশেষে বই আকারে বের করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। তার গর্ব – ডায়েরীতে একটিও মিথ্যে কথা তিনি লেখেননি। তবে তিনি মনোবিজ্ঞানী বলে অনেকেরই গোপন কথা তিনি জানেন, যাদের বইটি বের হওয়া নিয়ে আপত্তি করা অস্বাভাবিক নয়। সেদিক থেকে যাতে বাঁধা না আসে, সেজন্যে ডাঃ মুনসী ফেলুদাকে নিয়োগ করেন তাদের বুঝিয়ে বলার জন্য। তবে গল্পের পিছনেও যে আরও অনেক ঘটনা আছে, তা ফেলুদা প্রথমে না জানলেও তার কাছে সেসব স্পষ্ট হয়ে ওঠে অচিরেই।

Another of Feluda’s stories: Dr. Rajen Munshi, a famous psychiatrist in Koklata, decides to publish a series of diaries that he has been writing for the last 40 years… His point of pride: there is not a a single lie in those writings. Some of his clients, however, do not take the news well, fearing that private details they intimated to him would soon go public. Dr. Munshi hires Feluda to convince those people, but then, things take an unexpected turn…

ফেলুদার বেশ কিছু গল্প এখন হাতে, তাছাড়া সময়ও অফুরন্ত। তাই আরেকটি আপলোড। আমেরিকা থেকে সম্প্রতি দেশে ফেরা বিখ্যাত মনস্তত্ত্ববিদ (প্যারাসাইকোলজিস্ট) ডঃ হেমাঙ্গমোহন হাজরা কলকাতায় অদ্ভুত একটি ছেলের সন্ধান পান, যার কথা শুনে মনে হয় যে অতীত কোন জীবনে সে অন্য একজন মানুষ ছিল। ছেলেটির মুখে তার ‘পূর্বজন্মের’ বর্ণনা শুনে তাকে নিয়ে ডঃ হাজরা গবেষণার জন্য রাজস্থান যাওয়া স্থির করেন। কিন্তু এদিকে পত্রপত্রিকায় ছেলেটির মুখে গুপ্তধনের কথার খবর বেরিয়ে যাওয়ায় গোলমেলে লোকজনরাও তাদের পিছু নেয়, আর ফেলুদাকে যেতে হয় ছেলেটিকে তাদের হাত থেকে রক্ষা করতে… অন্তত প্রথমে ব্যাপারটা সেরকমই মনে হয়। একজন জাতিস্মর, রাজস্থানের মরূভূমি, জাঁদরেল মনস্তত্ত্ববিদ – সবকিছু নিয়ে ফেলুদার এই গল্পটি অনেক দিক দিয়েই অসাধারণ, কিন্তু বিশেষ কোন কিছুর কথা যদি বলতেই হয়, তবে এটুকুই বোধহয় যথেষ্ট – জটায়ুর সাথে ফেলুদার প্রথম দেখা হয় এই গল্পেই।

Feluda’s Adventures – Sonar Kella (The Golden Fortress) – Satyajit Ray

Lots of time and quite a few of Feluda’s adventures in my hands. Hence another upload. In Sonar Kella (The Golden Fortress), a parapsychologist in Kolkata is intrigued by a boy who talks about living an earlier life in Rajasthan, and decides to take the boy there to study him. The media, however, get hold of and publish the news that the boy speaks of a hidden treasure, which sets unknown rogues in their pursuit. Or at least, that is how things seem when Feluda takes up the case.

Memories of a previous life, the wild deserts of Rajasthan, parapsychology – Sonar Kella is an exceptional story in many ways, but if there is one thing that really sets this Feluda adventure apart from others – it is that Jatayu makes his first appearance here.

এর আগের পোস্টে যা লিখেছিলাম, তারই ধারাবাহিকতায় আরেকটি গোয়েন্দা গল্প। ফেলুদাকে নিয়ে। সত্যি বলতে কি, গোয়েন্দা গল্পের ক্ষেত্রে বাংলায় ফেলুদার গল্পসমগ্রের সমতুল্য কিছু আছে বলে আমার মনে হয় না। তবে ফেলুদার গল্পগুলোর শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব শুধুমাত্র যে গোয়েন্দাপ্রবরেরই কারণে, তা নয়। অসাধারণ প্রতিদ্বন্দিতার জন্য দরকার অসাধারণ প্রতিপক্ষের, আর ফেলুদার গল্পের ক্ষেত্রেও কিন্তু তাই। আগের দুটো গল্পে ফেলু মিত্তিরকে দুজন দুর্ধর্ষ রাঘব বোয়ালের সাথে লড়তে হয়েছিল। বোম্বাইয়ের বোম্বেটেতেও তেমনই একজনের সাথে তার দেখা হয়ে যায়। তবে পার্থক্য এই যে আগের দুটো গল্পের খলনায়কদের পরিচয় অচিরেই স্পষ্ট হয়ে উঠলেও চলচ্চিত্রের দুনিয়ায় ঘটা এই গল্পে বাস্তব আর অভিনয়ের পেছনে লুকিয়ে থাকা মুখোশধারীদের খুঁজে বের করা ফেলুদার পক্ষেও প্রায় অসম্ভব হয়ে দাঁড়ায়।

This time, another story of the unparalleled Bangalee sleuth Feluda. Like all good detective stories, and the two of his exploits previously posted on this site, this too features a villain whose cunning pushes the protagonist to his limits. But unlike the previous stories with their defined adversaries, this one takes place in Bollywood, a world where reality and pretense collude to mask the faces of those who pull the strings.

এপর্যন্ত এই ওয়েবসাইটে যেসব লেখাগুলো তোলা হয়েছে, সেগুলো আপলোড করার সময় অনেক গোয়েন্দা গল্প হাতে থাকলেও দৈর্ঘ্যের কারণে সেগুলো তুলে দেওয়া থেকে বিরত থেকেছি। আজকালকার দিনে কয়েক পৃষ্ঠার বেশি গল্প পরার সময় মানুষের কোথায়? তবে বিগত কিছু দিন থেকেই খেয়াল করছি যে অনেক পাঠক ফেলুদার যত কান্ড কাঠমান্ডুতে – যা কিনা এখন পর্যন্ত এই সাইটের একমাত্র গোয়েন্দা গল্প – ডাউনলোড করছেন। সেজন্যেই আজ উৎসুক পাঠকদের জন্যে আরেকটি গল্প তুলে দিচ্ছি – যা আমার মতে ফেলুদার কাহিনীগুলোর মধ্যে অন্যতম সেরা। গোরস্থানে সাবধান গল্পটি শুরু হয় কলকাতার বিখ্যাত পার্ক স্ট্রীট সমাধিক্ষেত্রে, যেখানে ঘুরতে গিয়ে ফেলুদা, তোপসে ও লালমোহনবাবু আকস্মিকভাবে একটি পুরোনো কবর রহস্যজনক ও অর্ধখোঁড়া অবস্থায় আবিস্কার করেন। ঘটনাটির তদন্ত তাদেরকে সেখান থেকে নিয়ে যায় পুরোনো কলকাতার জীর্ণ সাহেবপট্টি থেকে আধুনিক কলকাতার এক সুরম্য প্রাসাদে… আর ফেলুদাকে লড়তে হয় এমন একজনের প্রতিদ্বন্দীর সাথে, যাকে শুধুমাত্র গডফাদার উপাধিটাই মানায়।

Feluda’s Adventures – Gorosthane Shabdhan (Beware in the Graveyard) – Satyajit Ray

Till now, I have largely refrained from uploading detective stories on this site, the reason being their length. After all, few people have the time to read more than a few pages of literature these days. Lately, however, I have noticed that a lot of my readers so far have downloaded Jato Kando Kathmandute (The Criminals of Kathmandu), a story of the Bangalee detective Feluda, and the only detective story in this site so far. So, due to popular demand, here is another of his stories – and perhaps one of the best. In Gorosthane Shabdhan (Beware in the Graveyard), Feluda and his companions come across a partially excavated old tomb in Kolkata’s Park Street Cemetery, the investigation of which leads them to the decaying Anglo-Indian residences of old Kolkata and a palatial residence in the new town. And Feluda comes across an adversary who can only be described as a godfather.

ফেলুদার গল্প – ফেলুদা – যত কান্ড কাঠমান্ডুতে – সত্যজিৎ রায়

বাংলা সাহিত্যে যদি শার্লক হোমস বলে কেও থেকে থাকেন, তবে তিনি ফেলুদাই। সত্যজিৎ রায়ের কালজয়ী সৃষ্টি এই গোয়েন্দা শুধু বাংলারই নন, খুব সম্ভবত পুরো উপমহাদেশেরই সবচেয়ে বিখ্যাত গোয়েন্দা চরিত্র। এই গল্পে ফেলুদাকে আমরা পাই নেপালের রাজধানী কাঠমান্ডুতে।  গল্পটা অবশ্য ফেলুদার অন্য গল্পগুলোর থেকে একটু আলাদা… ভিন্ন দেশে গল্প বলে নয়, বরং সেখানেও ফেলুদার খুব চেনা একজন আলাপীর সাথে দেখা হয়ে যাওয়ার কারণে।

If Bangla literature has a counterpart to Sherlock Holmes, then it is undoubtedly Feluda. Written by Satyajit Ray, who was an avid fan of Doyle’s writing, Feluda’s exploits has made him the most popular detective in the Bangla speaking world. In this adventure, Feluda’s investigation into a mysterious death takes him and his companions to Kathmandu, Nepal. The story is a little different from most of Feluda’s other adventures, as the investigation takes an unexpected turn after the appearance of ‘an old friend’.
